I have decided that instead of becoming anxious and jaded about things I hear and read on essential oil Facebook pages that I will continue to educate on essential oil usage, safety, dilution, diffusing and more.
There are many different schools of thought on essential oils and their usage. You will hear and read many different opinions on dilution (how much pure oils to carrier oil there is), ingesting, topical, inhalation, children and babies, pregnancy and breastfeeding but you must keep in mind that there are many factors to take into consideration in all these areas.
For example, dilution: Many essential oils can be used neat (pure) while others need to be diluted in a carrier oil like olive or grapeseed to make it safe for topical application. Some companies use lavender as their carrier oil as it is safe in pure form and used in burn wards all over Europe. German and Roman chamomile is one of the most gentlest and safest essential oils around for babies to adults and has been used for hundreds of years both in babies mouth and on skin.(Healing Hollow does not promote in mouth of babies due to liability) Strong oils like clove and cinnamon should be diluted to avoid skin irritation however some choose to use them neat as well and go on a case to case.
There are professionals who adamantly believe essential oils shouldn’t be taken internally while other professionals administer essential oils on a regular basis to treat all sorts of ailments with great success.
In the past month I have removed myself from all Facebook Groups as I found them to be very toxic and lead to an anxiety ridden day due to the abundance of misinformation, ego driven and unfounded comments by people who really aren’t trained or know. I have always promised to keep my HH page informative and knowledgeable, I will not criticize other companies or deter you from using competitors products because the journey is your own. I will not try and sell you on HH oils or blends by discrediting another essential oil company’s quality or ‘purity’, it’s bad karma.
We must keep in mind that if we lose our ability to make an intuitive, educated decision because we have read or had 47 alerts on a Facebook Page post about the negatives, we will need more than calming essential oil blends to deal with the anxiety. This new world of natural healing has become so scary, it’s a bit of an oxymoron…beautifully painful. In the big scheme of things when you consider how many essential oil companies and natural product companies there are out there it is extremely rare that we hear of any negative, if anything, it is almost all positive.
I wish I could blend a ‘Fear Be Gone’ spritzer for all those feeding into the fear of essential oil use but for now I have to just keep doing what I do. Healing Hollow blends are made with an intuitive idea, then perusing my essential oil textbooks (from various authors), researching it till there is nothing left to know, meditating, coming up with a recipe then researching all those ingredients and dilutions seven more times going as far back in history as I can, then blending it and educating. I will always remain open to learning new things and I will never judge another professional for what or who they believe. Is there really any right or wrong?
I got into this business as a hobby, as a love for natural healing for my children and my family, after having negative effects from drugs. If I can offer anything as a professional it would be to keep an open mind with essential oils as there really isn’t much to fear. I have blended, spilled, diffused, bathed, been pregnant, had babies, breastfed, ingested, had cats and dogs all around essential oils for 11 years now and the worst negative I can tell you is that my son spilled peppermint on his pants and he felt cold for 2 hours.
A great read if you are into the different methods of essential oil usage. Save it if you can’t read now!!
